weathering and erosion- defintion
is a process that occur at or near the surface of the earth to break and decompose rock.
Weathering takes place as rocks are broken down into progressively smaller pieces by the effects of weather. These pieces do not move to a new location, they simply break down, but remain next to one another.
types of weathering:
- physical weathering(to break up rock of the larger size into smaller size)
- wedging
- exfoliation
- thermal expansion
- abrasion
- wetting and drying
- pressure release by erosion
- chemical weathering(break up the rock chemically by adding or removing chemical element, change them into new material )
- dissolution
- hydrolysis
- oxidation
- biological weathering(caused by the activities of living organisms)
